Hall of Fame
Robert Heap earned three varsity letters in football and track in addition to lettering his junior year on the Tigers basketball team. Heap is one of only eight Holy Cross football players in school history to be selected twice to All-State Football Teams (1945 and 1946). Heap played on teams that compiled a 25-2-4 record, including starting on defensive end for the 1945 State Championship team. After being named All-Louisiana First Team in 1945, Heap co-captained the 1946 squad where he went on to be named First Team All-Prep and All-State. He was also named captain of the Louisiana All-Star Team by the States-Item in 1946. Heap also established a state record time of 15:5 in the high hurdles as a junior in 1946 at the Item-Prep Relay Carnival at City Park. Heap excelled all three years in track and field and was captain of the team in his senior season of 1947. Heap passed away in 2005 at the age of 76. He was a volunteer with the St. Paul's School Athletic Association and the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a charter member of the St. Joseph Abbey "Pennies for Bread" program. Heap and his wife Jerri Heap had six sons—Robert Heap Jr., Gary, Michael, Edwin, David and Brian Heap; three daughters, Sharon Heap, Susan H. DeSilva and Kathleen H. Dwight. He had two brothers—Joseph and Raymond Heap, both Holy Cross graduates, and a sister, Dorothy H. McDow.
