As a star football player at Holy Cross who shined in Coach Lou Brownson’s single-wing offense, Lauricella earned All-Prep honors in his senior season. At the University of Tennessee, he was unanimously selected as an All-American and voted the Heisman Trophy runner-up, with both honors coming in 1951. Volunteer nation knew him as “Mr. Everything”, as he led UT to the National Championship in his senior year. Lauricella was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1981, and served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1964-1972 and the State Senate from 1972-1996.
