Hall of Fame
Ray Hester was an outstanding linebacker for the Tigers for three seasons. He was an All-District selection in 1965-1966 and served as co-captain of the 1966 football team. Upon graduation, Hester played linebacker at Tulane University, helping lead a resurgence of Greenie football by starting in 32 straight games. Hester also anchored the Green Wave defense for the Tulane 1970 Liberty Bowl Champion team, the first Tulane bowl game since 1940. In 1971, Ray was signed as a free agent by the New Orleans Saints and played linebacker for the team until 1973, becoming the first Tulane football player to play for the Saints. He finished his professional career by playing the next year with Hawaii of the World Football League. Ray was chosen as a member of the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983.
