Earl Schneider was a football and track standout at Holy Cross from 1951-1955. In his first year of a 4-year letterman stint in track, Schneider ran a 9.8 time in the 100-yard dash – the fastest finish by a high school athlete at that time. He was a 2-year letterman in football and, as a senior, compiled the first 1000-yard season ever accomplished in high school athletics. Schneider scored 120 + points for the Tigers in his senior season, serving as a captain of both football and track teams. He was named All-Prep, All-State, All-Southern, and Catholic All-American, as well as a Sugar Bowl athlete recipient. Upon graduation from SLU, he returned to Holy Cross in 1961 as a football and track coach, and as a math teacher. He retired from the classroom in 1987 but continues to work at Holy Cross to this day. “Coach Earl” has 55 years of service to the Holy Cross School.
