Dr. C. John “Butsy” Zimmermann ’50 (deceased) – Mr. Zimmermann was a four-sport letterman, earning three letters in football, baseball, basketball, and track.  He was a member of State and City championship teams in baseball while earning All-State and All-Prep honors on the diamond as a first baseman.  He added All-Prep honors in football.  He was selected as the Tigers’ baseball captain his senior year and he led the team in hitting with .486 BA.  Mr. Zimmermann was also a member of the State Champion Legion team.  In football, he was recruited by legendary coach Frank Leahy as a QB to Notre Dame, but he transferred to Loyola to play baseball.  He would sign a $50,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox, which was huge in the 1950s.  He served in Japan and Korea as an Army Officer, before playing three years of minor league baseball.
