Casbon earned multiple letters across three sports as a Tiger athlete. Casbon earned three varsity letters in football along with two in basketball and two in track where he was captain as a junior.
Casbon was the only Tiger chosen to the States-Item All-District basketball team for Coach John Arms averaging a team best 13.2 points per game as a co-captain in 1967.
For his outstanding accomplishments across all three sports, Casbon was rewarded at the 1967 Holy Cross All-Sports banquet with guest speaker Heisman Trophy winner and NFL All-Pro Paul Hornung in attendance. Casbon was named outstanding lineman on the football team and took home the Jack Valley Memorial award. Casbon was also voted most valuable basketball player and picked up his letter in track and field.
Casbon continued his football career at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette/UL Lafayette) where he was four-year letterman in football before graduating with a bachelor of science in physical education in 1972. Casbon played for the legendary Russ Faulkinberry. In his 4 years as a Cajun, the football team went 27-13-1 with two Gulf States Conference championships and a trip to the Grantland Rice Bowl (now the Independence Bowl). He earned top defensive player honors in 1970 along with All-Gulf States Conference laurels.
Casbon graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education and received his master’s degree in education in 1979. He spent his whole career educating and coaching young men with stops at De La Salle-New Orleans HS, Northside HS, Crowley HS and Acadiana HS and his alma mater UL Lafayette. Casbon is married to the former Joan Hebert and they have three sons Anthony, Michael and Matthew.
