Hall of Fame
Glenn Smith was an outstanding running back and fullback for the Tigers from 1962-1964 and was a member of the highly-regarded 1963 State Championship team. He also was a Track team member. Among his many football successes as a Holy Cross Tiger, he is remembered for his stellar feat versus St. Aloysius in a 20-13 win when he almost single-handedly beat the Crusaders. Glenn scored three touchdowns on a kickoff return, punt return and pass reception from Butch Duhe. He attended LSU on a football scholarship, lettering for two years. In 1968, wearing the Purple and Gold, Smith garnered the distinct honor of being the first sophomore ever to be named the Miller-Digby Award recipient as Sugar Bowl Most Valuable Player. Trailing throughout the game, in the second half, Smith was inserted into the lineup and helped turn the game into a 20-13 victory for the Tigers over the Wyoming Cowboys, whose team included Jim Kiick, a later member of the Miami Dolphins’ Super Bowl Champions team.
