Tigers Roar in Season Opener

The Holy Cross Football (1-0) team defeated the Chalmette Owls (0-1), 56-7, Friday evening at Bobby Nuss Stadium.

Friday marked the 51st meeting between the two teams dating back to 1967; consecutive since 1970. 

"It was a well-earned win. These guys have been working very hard at practice and they deserved what they got tonight," said head coach Dominic Saltaformaggio. "They are really good Holy Cross men."


NOTABLES

  • Jaden Handy opened up the scoring with 6:41 remaining in the first quarter.
  • John Wooton 7-yard scramble extended the Tigers lead to 13. 
  • Eli Lafrance blocked a punt at the beginning of the second quarter. 
  • Amiri Franklin scored his first touchdown of the season to put Holy Cross up 20-0.
  • Wooton finished with one rushing touchdown and two passing touchdowns.
  • Handy scored his second touchdown of the night with 1:48 remaining in the first half. 
  • Tigers Kicker Armin Seraji kept a clean sheet tonight finishing with 8 PAT's. 
  • Handy finished with four rushing touchdowns and one receiving. 
  • Coach Salt received tonight's game ball. 


UP NEXT

Holy Cross will face Archbishop Shaw at Hoss Memtsas Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10. The first kick is scheduled for 2 p.m.
