Holy Cross Beats Chalmette in Backyard Brawl

NEW ORLEANS - The Holy Cross football team beat the Chalmette High School Owls 51-13 at Tad Gormley Stadium Saturday afternoon, September 17. 

Head coach Nick Saltaformaggio and the Tigers defeated the Owls in the Backyard Brawl for the third consecutive year. 

Chalmette struck first with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter. The Tigers answered with a 13-yard rushing touchdown by Koby Young to take the 7-6 lead. 

The Owls forced the final lead change by securing their second rushing touchdown. Three minutes later, Cole Canatella connected with Chris Sercovich on a 10-yard touchdown pass to move the score to 14-13. 

Holy Cross led 14-13 heading into the break. Following the break, Kayden Andoh scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown, while Claude Johnson punched in the two-point conversion. 

Johnson scored a touchdown of his own with 28 seconds remaining in the third quarter to push the Tigers' lead to 37-13. Ian Tate scooped and scored a fumble recovery to give Holy Cross the 44-13 advantage. 

Holy Cross defeated Chalmette in the Backyard Brawl 51-13.
