Scott Wattigny '05

Scott Wattigny, a proud graduate of Holy Cross in 2005, has a deep-rooted connection to the school. For over half a century, his family has been an integral part of the Holy Cross legacy, with his grandfather Louis Deutschmann being a founding member of the athletic Hall of Fame. Continuing this tradition, Scott's father, late Louis Wattigny, and numerous relatives also walked the halls of the institution. Holy Cross isn't merely a school; it's a cherished home for Scott and his family. This sentiment carries on as his sons, Siegen (6) and Beckham (4), embark on their own Holy Cross journey—Siegen entering kindergarten and Beckham joining Pre-K4.

Scott recently led as the Athletic Director and Head Football coach at Catholic High in New Iberia, LA. His coaching journey spans 14 years, including 9 years as a Head Football Coach. His record boasts 49 wins and 39 losses, encompassing numerous playoff appearances and a 3-7 playoff record. He contributed to Vermilion Catholic's 14-0 State Championship victory and propelled Archbishop Hannan to its first undefeated season and district championship since 1996. His accolades include the 2018 Clarion Herald Coach of the Year award.

During his time at Holy Cross, Scott excelled as a three-sport athlete, captaining both the football and baseball teams. His football prowess earned him spots on the All-Parish Team three times, All-District honors, and recognition as a Clarion Herald All-Elite Player in his senior year. His baseball career included three years as a catcher and a three-year letterman.

Continuing his athletic journey, Scott played football at Northwestern State University, where he became a standout. He earned a place as a four-year letterman, an Academic All-American finalist, and the recipient of the prestigious "Jack Clayton Scholarship Award." His leadership extended off the field, as he participated in hiring the new Head Football coach during his senior year. Additionally, he transformed from a walk-on to a scholarship player.

A devout Catholic, Scott intertwines his faith with coaching and teaching. He champions a Christ-like attitude within his football program at Holy Cross, encapsulated by the motto "I am THIRD": God first, Family second, and self third. The program embodies pillars such as Humility, Perseverance, Courage, Meekness, and Family, fostering personal growth and prosperity. Scott coaches with a paternal approach, aiming to inspire and guide players on and off the field.

With thirteen years of coaching experience, Scott's versatility is evident. He's well-versed in all aspects of the game and holds multiple strength and conditioning certifications. Many of his players have realized their dreams of playing college and professional football under his guidance.

Beyond coaching, Scott finds joy in his family. He's a loving father to Siegen and Beckham and has shared a fulfilling marriage with Katie Wattigny for 11 years.
