Bowling-vs-brothermartin

Tigers Remain Undefeated With Win Over Brother Martin

The Holy Cross bowling team (3-0) defeated Brother Martin (0-1) 15 ½ - 11 ½ for the first time since 2013 Monday afternoon.

In what felt like a playoff heavyweight bout, the Tigers knocked down a grand total of 3,500 pins, higher than any team total in the past ten years.

The Tigers started fast, taking a 6 ½ - 1 ½ lead off the back of Cody Miller's 279 in the 5-spot and Alex Tran's 243 in the leadoff position. The game 1 six-bowler-total of 1,244 comes in as the second highest team total in school history, only behind a 1,263 in 2013. Alec Lanning and Aodhan Laiche also earned the team a point in head-to-head, with Gavin McDow splitting the point in a 162-162 tie.

In game 2, the Crusaders fought back, shooting 1,236 -1135, gaining a 8.5-7.5 lead. While Alec Lanning led the team with a 212 in the 6th spot, the team's highest average, it was not enough to defeat Jacob Vangilder's 231. Alex Tran was the lone scorer in the 2nd game, winning his match 202-167.

With the final game left to go, the Tigers had a 34-pin lead that they would add on to keep their undefeated season alive. While the lowest team game at 1,121, the Tigers won 3/6 matches, and game total, adding 5 points and the 3 for grand total that swing the match to make HC victorious. Aodhan Laiche, for the third time broke the 200-mark with a 226-201 final. Cody Miller won 178-150, and Alec Lanning closed the match with three strikes, winning in the anchor position 203-168.

Overall, the team saw four 600+ series: Laiche's 651, Miller's 647, Lanning's 619, and Tran's 609. The team had 9/18 games over 200, an impressive feat for a team with 16 new members to the squad.

The program has taken a significant step up, as the team has twenty members, and a JV team (6-0) for the first time in its existence. Holy Cross currently is tied for first in Division I, alongside Acadiana and Captain Shreve.

The bowling team will be back in action on February 5th, as the Varsity takes on Destrehan (0-2) and the Junior Varsity faces Archbishop Rummel JV.
